A few simple one light beauty portraits shot live on the @getolympus stage at @photoplusofficial in New York City last week.

Lighting was one Godox AD200 mounted in a 36" Softbox Umbrella from @savageuniversal
The last shot is a LIVE COMPOSITE image with 1/2 second exposures and I painted in the starbursts in real time,

Tethered with @tethertools cables and TetherBLOCK, and using a Benro Tripod with an @acratech ballhead. In camera files were saved to @delkin.devices Power SD Cards.

I don't shoot a lot on my photo walks because I am there to teach - but I couldn't pass up shooting a few frames of my incredible model @sofiabianchessi

We had some amazing early morning light in front of the Javits Center in NYC. All are direct sunlight both outside and inside the building with sunlight coming right through the glass.

All shots were done with the @getolympus OM-D E-M1X and the M.Zuiko 40-150mm F2.8 PRO ZOOM Lens.

All shots were ISO 200 | 1/2500sec | F2.8 - 5.6
52mm - 60mm Focal Length on 40-150mm Zoom.
@delkin.devices Power Cards used for storage.

PROBLEM SOLVING - At a camera store event for @getolympus I was scheduled to do a demo - outside. Unfortunately the weather in St. Louis turned cold and it snowed so we were forced to do the demo in a very small lobby of a small office building.

So my background - a cheap painting on the wall. Lighting - two Godox AD200 strobes - the main with an @magnetmod MagBounce turned upside down (see second image) the second with a blue gel.

ALIEN >> I am so blessed to work with so many incredibly creative and talented artists. The credit for this amazing body painted Alien with blackout contacts goes to the model and makeup artist himself @lukeeffects. I had the easy job.

Backlit B&W Portraits with V-Flats and an upside down @magnetmod MagBounce!

I LOVE backlit B&W portraits inspired by the famous "Last Sitting" images of Marilyn Monroe taken by the late Bert Stern.

ISO100 | 1/250s | F2.8

LIGHTING: These shots were done with 3 @godox_photo_equipment AD200 Pocket Flashes. Two of the strobes are placed behind the @vflatworld V-Flats to light and overexpose the background. The third is place in front of and above the model aimed directly at her with the MagBounce turned upside down to act a s a diffuser. This provides just a little fill and a nice catchlight.

The v-flats on either side of the model help to prevent flare from the over exposed background and also add fill to create the soft shadowless light.

Add a beautiful model like @ms.witherspoon and hair and makeup by @artistrybymonae and my job was easy.

PROBLEM > SOLUTION

I prefer to get it right in camera, but that is not always an option. This one-light shot was made during a seminar in Holland, Michigan and as you can see in the second image - the collar was dirty and smudged. So my option was to remove the collar or fix it in post which would be extremely time consuming and with a high degree of difficulty.

The solution in post - add a texture and blue tint.
